Clarify, Condition and add some Roux Porosity Control

Hey so I decided to buy myself some clarifying shampoo and I recently put garlic in my conditioner. I have been reading up that garlic helps strengthen hair and stops shedding....we will see. Also I have never used clarifying shampoo in my life.

Another good thing...my Roux Porosity Control Conditioner came today!!!!

So here is what I plan to do tonight.

1. Pre-poo with coconut oil for an hour with no heat and a plastic cap.
2. Wet hair  and apply clarifying shampoo in sections.
3. Rinse
4. Use moisturizing shampoo.
5. Use moisturizing conditioner with garlic.
6. Deep condition hair for 45 mins with no heat and a plastic cap.
7. Put Roux Porosity Conditioner
8. Moisturize and seal
9. Air-dry.

Tomorrow I will post pics of the products I used tonight

lash love :)

So since I have been taking my supplements my eyelashes have gotten really long...I mean I wasn't exactly looking for that kind of result but hey, it isn't that bad to have really long lashes :)

I decided to restart my makeup loving ways and used just a little mascara and my lashes were gorgeous!!!! :D Seriously though I'm loving it.

This is the mascara I used.

side note: my lashes were looking nice and long before I used the mascara

Hair Talk

This weekend was my birthday (yaay!!) so that meant that I wasn't paying attention to my hair :(.

I am always the one to say no to alcohol when my friends suggest it, but I couldn't this time lol. I mean c'mon it was my 21st birthday.

Anyway, so I neglected my supplements and I did not drink enough water (#fail) and i know alcohol isn't exactly the best thing for my strands.

While I was partying I know I felt some of my hair popping out when I got birthday hugs and stuff. I don't wanna sound to paranoid but I couldn't help it...I want this long hair.

all in all I say no more drinking for now, I co-washed my hair yesterday, did the greenhouse thing last night and I took my vitamins today...yep I'm getting back on track. :)

Relaxer time!!

So I started doing my hair at 2:30 this afternoon and I finished at around 6:30pm.

My d-i-y job didn't turn out too bad, but I think I put a little too much coconut oil in so now my hair is sorta limp.
here's what I did...I got my friend to put my put the Dark & Lovely relaxer in....

then I put the protein keratin treatment thing that's shown at the top left corner of the box. After that I used the neutralizer, rinsed then put more and left it in for ten minutes.

I put conditioner in and left it for 5mins then rinsed.

then I added my moisturizers and coconut oil and roller set my hair.

Everything was good until I left it to air-dry. My hair just seems to not like the air-drying thing at all. I think it's because I started going natural last year then stopped but the stylist who relaxed my hair didn't know that because I had flat ironed it so she couldn't tell the ends were natural. So now I have natural ends, but relaxed roots. They only smooth out with heat, but I didn't want to use heat on my hair.

I had to get it flat ironed anyway though. :(

It's cool though...but the OD coconut oil happened because I was use to the amount I had to use when I was stretching my relaxer...soooo lets just say my hair is well moisturized and sealed :)

it's almost time :)

I'm gonna relax my hair this Friday...I would have stretched it longer but my birthday is Saturday sooooo :) I want it to be super cute..

I've been reading a lot to find out the best ways to relax my hair and what to do post relaxer.

So since I did my protein treatment last week I definitely will do another protein treat after I rinse the relaxer out. Then I'll neutralize and rinse then neutralize again for ten minutes, then do a deep condition and then moisturize and roller set. I wont be using any heat so hopefully the hair comes out of the roller set nicely even though its air-dryed.

In other news....

Usually the sides of my hair grows faster than the back and the middle and I have noticed that the sides of my hair are growing back nicely :).  plus my hair isn't relaxed yet.

This is awesome..yaay!! =]

Greenhouse Effect Results

This is my result, I think it feels so soft and my new growth feels good (not crunchy). This is now ten weeks post relaxer so I figure this is actually pretty good.
I am still a little unsure about deep conditioning after I do this process. I really do not know when to do a protein treatment because I've been moisturizing mostly and I've read I need a balance between protein and moisture.....I guess I'll be reading some more.

My friends think I don't pay attention to anything else other than my hair lol because I "spazzed" out my one friend when she tried to touch my hair...with a hairpin -_-....Um you can't play with my ends girl

Anyway, I have class now so toodles (see other things are important)

2nd trial of the greenhouse effect

So under this is my plastic cap..my hair is definitely steaming under there...off to bed I go.

Definitely posting a pic about how it comes out in the morning :)

Something new and products!!

I found something new, its called the Real Queens Greenhouse Effect, it's awesome. here are the directions from the Real Queens website:

  • wash hair once a month with 100% natural shampoo
  • deep condition as needed with 100% natural conditioner
  • blot hair dry with a t-shirt (it's more gentle on the hair than a towel)
  • do the green house effect at least twice a week or as often as you'd like (the more the better)
  • dust ends every 1-2 months (this is optional, but highly recommended)
  • for best results wear protective or low manipulation hairstyles
  • try to avoid using heat - air dry instead of blow drying
  • if you flat iron your hair, only do it once a month
  • be gentel with your hair - don't comb and brush so often
  • try to not use products with chemicals in them because they produce the wrong kind of build-up which will force you to shampoo more frequently - use natural products/oils
  • eat right and drink lots of water

GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
  • On damp or dry hair apply a generous amount of JBCO or EVOO throughout your hair (or how ever much you can tolerate) making sure to coat the ends in the oil to create a protective barrier against pollution, fabrics, dryness ect.
  • This regimen works well with various protective hairstyles such as bantu knot outs and braid outs, so once you’ve oiled your hair you can prep it accordingly depending on how you plan to style it the next day.
  • Place shower cap or plastic bag over your hair to lock in the moisture from your scalps natural oils and heat from your head. This creates a green house, steam effect during your sleep which is the best time for your hair growth in this case.
  • Place a head tie/scarf over your head & shower cap making sure that it’s nice and snug; for best results also wear a winter hat over your scarf to help produce more heat.
In the morning you may find that your hair is a bit damp from the moisture the steam effect created.
  • You can either blow dry it on cool setting, let it air dry a bit (about 15 mins) before styling, or go ahead and style it while it’s still damp and let it dry as the day progresses.
* if you don't really care for the JBCO smell, you should definitley try the Shea Oil with Mango & Papaya it will make your hair smell amazing or you can simply use EVOO from your local grocery store, it's much cheaper!

I do this greenhouse thing on weeknights when I have late classes the next day. It leaves my hair so soft, especially my ten week old new growth. I really did not use extra virgin olive oil because I like using coconut oil. Plus I just got new bottle of extra virgin coconut oil which brings me to my next point.

My products came!!!!! yaay!!

I got my new coconut oil, MSM 1000mg capsules, Biotin 5000mcg pills and my Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Protecter (that cost too much for shipping :/)

I've heard so much about MSM, I hope it really lives up to the hype. After iI took it today for the first time I had a really bad headache ( and maybe this is TMI),  I peed like every 5 mins. I read more health websites on MSM and it says that you may experience the headache thing because its supposed to be releasing toxins. I don't know if I blamed the MSM for my problems, I usually go a lot because I drink a lot of water, and my headaches are nothing new.

If it persists I'll just blog about it.

Wash day!!

I washed my hair Sunday night, and forgot to put deep conditioner in. :/

I Co-washed with Head n Shoulders moisturizing conditioner and then I put my moisturizer in and sealed with coconut oil. When I did that I realized I forgot to deep condition *sigh*

Now I don't know if I should deep condition some time this week or just wait till my next wash day to do it. I really want to deep condition because I bought a new product with egg. I read that you cant just moisturize alone, protein treatments are needed.

I guess I'll have to research this some more.

By the way my moisturizing and sealing practice is making my new growth so nice and soft. I've never felt my new roots so soft and manageable. :)

Hair goals 2011

So before my new products get here, I've decided to do a "hair goal" entry. I have been reading alot of other blogs from people who have healthy, long hair because I want what they have by the end of the year.

My current hair goal is arm pit length. The question, however is, what will it take to get there?

I really hope the steps I have been taking so far and the ones I plan to take work. Seeing other people's progress really makes me believe I can get that too.

To do:

1. Take my vitamins and supplements every day.
2. Protective style most of the time.
3. No heat except for touch up days with the use of heat protectants.
4. moisturize and seal every night.

Hair talk and bad buy

Hi, so after moisturizing and sealing then detangling my hair, only about 5 strands came out on the comb, which was good :) One particular strand which was on my shoulder and I examined it....it really didn't look like my hair (it was), it was really strong, the diameter seemed to have increased, which is awesome.

At first I was thinking that these biotin pills and multi-vitamins or my moisturizing and sealing weren't working but it is!!! yaaayy!!!

Also, today I went to the store and guess what I saw after days of searching...Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship...ugh..I've been looking all over for this and after I ordered it online for $3.99+ $5 shipping fee, I'm highly upset.
It was just $3.43 at the store, I could have saved some dollars man, I'm a college student with no job!

ah well I guess its just my loss, on the bright side I'm gonna have this awesome product I've been hearing so much about.

Friday, March 11, 2011

So I just went insane spending my last dollars on hair stuff. I'm beginning to think I'm obsessed with my hair. When they all arrive I definitely have to do a like a haul post or something.... smh @ me

My hair before college, 1st year and now (2nd year college)

My hair before starting school in America...Jamaican sun was awesome (yep I'm Jamaican born and grown)

1st year college before it started thinning and breaking. (sorry about the dirty mirror)

Now my hair is shorter and thinner...some do not notice it but I know how my hair once felt and looked.

hopefully it gets back to its original thickness since I've learnt how to take care of it especially in this new climate.

wash day!!

So last time I posted about washing my hair and deep conditioning...then the horrible results of my twist out.

Well I combed that out a couple of days after and just been rocking the poofy hair for that week.

So today was wash day number 2 since my hair journey started. I did basically the same routine pre-poo'd with coconut oil with a plastic cap for about 45 mins (no heat), shampoo'd/conditioned, deep conditioned with plastic cap for an hour (no heat), rinsed and then moisturized and sealed with coconut oil.

This time I didn't bother with the twist out. -_- (wasn't gonna go through that again). this time I roller set. I doubt that it will come out really nice because I am in my 9th week post relaxer. at least my ends will be good. :)
